Uncovering your history takes the right people and tools to make it happen.
WHAT WE DO
Here's how we do what we do.
HISTORICAL RESEARCH
This includes deeds, census records, historic newspapers, genealogy, maps, land use, oral history, and other information to tell the story of a particular building or place.
Properties listed on or deemed eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places may be eligible to apply for historic tax credits to help offset the costs of rehabilitation. The federal government offers tax incentives as well as some states, including Alabama.
ARCHITECTURAL SURVEY
Surveys that document historic buildings, landscapes, cemeteries, and other elements of the built, human-made environment.
HISTORIC MARKER PROGRAM APPLICATIONS
State and many local governments administer historic marker programs that interpret historic sites, districts and buildings.
NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES NOMINATIONS
The National Register of Historic Places is the U.S. federal government’s official list of historic sites, districts, and structures; it is a recognition program for sites, districts and structures deemed most worthy of preservation for their historical significance.
PRESERVATION EDUCATION
Assists with the development of interpretative signage and brochures, preservation education initiatives, preservation training events and classes.

We trusted Katie Randall to research the history of a historic property and could not have been more pleased. Her work was thorough, enlightening, and provided us with a new perspective on the past, present, and possible future of the building. We highly recommend Katie Randall and Afore Preservation Consulting!

One word I would use to describe Katie is dependable. I wanted to document and preserve the history of my grandparent’s home and didn’t know where to start. Katie met with my family and helped us get the house listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage and apply for a historic marker. We ran into some unexpected obstacles due to COVID, but she was always available to guide us through the process and answer any questions that we had.
